A Whirlpool of Color
The first time I visited Mermaid Lagoon's Triton's Kingom, I thought to myself, 'Wow, this is what would happen if A Bug's Land actually had gotten a good budget and a commitment to quality and creativity.' Indeed, both Disney California Adventure and Tokyo Disney were opened in 2001, and both feature(d) a kid-centric land with the bulk of the park's concentration of family-friendly rides. But while A Bug's Land was quaint though clearly designed to be built quickly and economically, Mermaid Lagoon is immersive, atmospheric, and incredibly scenic. It's a small port of call, but it packs its own punch, and scenes like this really impressed me with the fantastic realm Disney Imagineers were able to conjure for this park's younger tykes!
