Built Inside the Caldera
We interrupt our recent Disneyland Resort posting and go to the Far East to Tokyo Disney Sea, where the heart of the park, Mysterious Island, is a Jules Vernean, steampunk realm of water and rockwork and sleek structure and architecture that create a unique setting unlike anything else in any Disney park--except for maybe parts of Disneyland Paris' Discoveryland. The setting of this themed port of call--a waterlogged volcanic caldera--provides a dramatic vista. The waterways below allow for watercraft to traverse through. Meanwhile, two excellent attractions--20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Journey to the Center of Earth--are hidden away beneath the geology. The result is a spectacular landscape that is as iconic and dramatic as any in Disney's theme park portfolio!
