A Halloween Hypothetical of Grizzly Proportions
Imagine it's Halloween, and the neighborhood is trick-or-treating. You've been handing out candy all night, and your supply is running low. The joy on children's faces when they receive their goodies counteracts the tiredness of the evening. And then, all of a sudden, you hear thundering approaching steps, shaking the very ground. What could this be?? Is it a monster? Have the myths of Halloween become real? The stomps halt right outside your door. You hear the huffs of whatever creature is outside. The doorbell somehow rings, followed by a snort. You wait. Whatever is outside waits. The doorbell rings again. You pause. Given how massive it sounds, whatever is outside could surely burst through the doors (or walls) and into your house if it wanted. But it's waiting. Why?
Your curiosity gets the better of you, and you creep toward the door. You unlatch the chain, slide open the deadbolt, and timidly creak the door ajar. Your view remains blocked, so you open the door wider, and you take a peek outside. And lo and behold, you see a massive, towering grizzly bear, holding a giant candy bucket. And it looks down on you, eyes quizzical, wondering why you took so long to respond. And it holds out its bucket. It must want some candy! But you're almost out.
The $1 million question: Do you give the giant grizzly bear the rest of your stash, meaning any future children won't be able to get any more?
