Constance 2.0
Continuing on the Tuesday theme of catching up with recent Disneyland Resort changes, I rode the Haunted Mansion last weekend to check out the updated attic theme, complete with a new iteration of the murderous, head-hunting bride, Constance Hatchaway.
The previous version had debuted back in 2006, giving a backstory to the beating heart bride that had previously occupied the space. In this retcon, Constance was a murderous black widow bride who married frequently after her previous husband disappeared through mysterious circumstances. Turns out they were losing their heads. Sinister as the storyline was, some felt that the projection-mapped character felt a little goofy in its execution.
The new version still relies upon projections but feels more ethereal and spooky rather than hokey. She's a return to the bride's roots, holding a candelabra that references the endless hallway at the start of the ride, and there's also a black cat similar to the one found in the queue. Evidence of Constance's beheadings still remains in the rest of the attic, but this Constance is a more timeless ghostly presence among the 999 happy haunts of the abode!
