Blue Horizons over Tomorrowland

For the longest time, Tokyo Disneyland was sort of a museum to Magic Kingdoms--an archive of old Disney design frozen from the 1980s.  The park was in terrific shape, lovingly taken care of and maintained by the Oriental Land Company. But as other Disney parks worldwide received expansions and ride replacements, Tokyo Disney largely stood pat.  

This has changed over the past decade, as the park has evolved more, shifting old attractions out in favor of new.  The addition of Pooh's Hunny Hunt in 2000 and Monsters Inc: Hide and Go Seek were precursors, but the Fantasyland Expansion into what used to be the Autopia really kicked things up.  And currently, in Tomorrowland, there's a new Space Mountain being built that promises to be a transformative thrill ride when it opens next year.  Yes, this is literally a new Space Mountain--they started building the new ride building next to the old one and then knocked the old one down.  Details have been scarce for this reimagined attraction, dubbed Earthrise, will celebrate the theme of harmony with nature and a connection to the planet, and it's supposed to come with new special effects and a different layout.  

This means a very different view below in the future.  In fact, with the new ride building already largely complete from the outside, it already is pretty different.  And I'm sure it will be pretty amazing when it opens!
