The Same Yet Different

For those used to the original Disneyland Park, a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland is a portal into an eerie alternate universe where things are almost the same as normal, except that they're not.  The differences are often subtle, but take a second and third look, and those discrepancies begin to reveal themselves.

Take the view straight up Main Street.  At Hong Kong, the most obvious difference is the presence of lush, mountainous terrain in the background where none exists in California.  The castle itself also looks "off," or rather "on."  Whereas Sleeping Beauty Castle in Anaheim is an imperfect construction borne out of the standards of the time in which it was built, Hong Kong's castle is perfect and straight and plumb--unnaturally so.  Then, there are the storefronts one passes as one strolls up Main Street in Hong Kong--similar elements but different names.  It's all familiar, except it's not.  And that makes for a strange feeling that takes a little while to get used to for guests of Hong Kong Disneyland.

That's not to say that one is better or worse.  It's all just... interesting...

Hong Kong Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle has a different backdrop than Anaheim's!
